I have a great interest in biotechnology and enjoy learning all about it. I suppose this has something to do with my experience in the field of information technology, but also my interest in the health care industry. It probably doesn't hurt that I live in Biotech Bay, and am surrounded by all kinds of biotech firms: Genentech (now Roche), Gilead Sciences, Amgen, and Novartis, to name a few.
It can be both exciting and chilling how technology and biology can be combined. We can benefit greatly from the advances coming out of that industry. But as I fall deeper down the biotech rabbit hole (as Moira Gunn might say), it becomes strikingly clear how important it is to get this technology right. My hope is that the industry can plow ahead and bring us wonderful advances in science, but that unintended consequences can be avoided.
Here are just a few of the resources I have been using to discover more about biotechnology. No doubt this list will continue to grow; feel free to suggest other resources by e-mailing me at dna at derhodes dot com.
